Warning — my children are not even mentioned in this post

This morning, Bill and I rode in the Tour de Gap just south of town. We opted not to ride 77, 52, or 27 miles, but had a great time on the 11 mile ride. The morning was gorgeous and the scenery was great (especially for this part of the country)! Here’s the best part: we won!!!! (prizes in the raffle, that is.)

Pretty great way to spend a morning with my favorite guy! Next year we’re planning on the 27 miles!

And then there are those parents who let their kids write on the wall

But luckily, I’m not one of them.  We just write on the windows!

You know those people who let their kids wear whatever they want…

…yeah, well.

Disclaimer: Bill actually called and offered to pick us up, but I thought it would be a good lesson about leaving when Mommy says it’s time to leave, AND I found the little walk in the rain delightfully pleasant, even if Molly found it less so.

Listen Up — Jane Anne and Molly’s week

(I would really encourage you to click on two links below — you’re in for a little treat.)

This week Jane Anne went to a day camp at ACU called Kid Quest. Each day they played silly games, did outdoor art, swam, bowled, ate lunch in the Bean, and learned about Jesus. Let’s just say she slept GREAT every night!

She said the funniest part of camp was when they were pretending to ride a train and a pretend tornado came OR when they were surfing and doing hula dancing. Her favorite things were swimming and bowling. She said the thing that made her happiest was when they went to tell their own stories. She said some of the things she told about were how beautiful the earth is and how she put her laundry up

The theme of the week was “One Way,” and they learned that Jesus is the only way to the Father.

While JA was at camp, I thought it would be splendid if Molly and I worked on potty training. Last Friday, she and I went to Target where she picked out a potty, Ariel panties, Skittles for pee-pee, and a big Cinderella “poop present,” that remains unopened on the entertainment center.  Well, let’s just say that I cleaned up A LOT of accidents this week and she’s back in pull ups today. We’ll try again after a short break. If she wants to do ballet starting in September, which she has been asking to do for a year, she has to be potty trained, so we’ll see.

I just can’t post pictures of her on the potty; I won’t do that to her, but I will post these pics of her avoiding the potty…

Heavy Hearted

I’ll post in the next few days with some fun things we’re doing this week — Jane Anne is at day camp at ACU and Molly is potty training! — but first I wanted to share with you what’s on my heart right now.

Yesterday morning, a little girl named Tatum, who is the three-year old daughter of some sweet friends from church, and one of Molly’s buddies, was diagnosed with Leukemia. She’s at Cook’s Children’s in Ft. Worth, which is the best place for her to be, and they are waiting on the results of a bone marrow biopsy which they did yesterday afternoon. I really have no words for what Mandy, Michael, Tatum, and big sister, Olivia, must be going through right now, but I know they covet prayers — prayers for healing, courage, strength, peace, God’s presence.

Tatum’s diagnosis comes on the heels of one of Jane Anne’s friends from ballet, Landry, being diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor back in March. Landry’s surgery went very well, she’s completed her radiation, and starts chemo on Friday.

Any child being diagnosed with cancer is horrifying, but the fact that we know these two little girls and they are the same ages as my girls has been burdensome. I call upon the Lord for peace for me and protection for my precious little ones. Events like these really put so much in perspective. They remind me how much of a gift each day is and remind me to get and give lots and lots and lots of hug every day.

Love to all of you and thank you for the way you love our family.

Taking some time to slow down and smell the roses, or some kind of flowers

Adorable.

Adorable.

Some crazy fun friends of ours invited us to spend a little vacation with them at the Lost Pines Resort outside of Austin. Lisa and I had been there in April to run a half marathon and wanted to go back and enjoy the resort at a little slower pace (well, my pace had been pretty slow to start with…). Basically, we spent a few days laying around the pool. It was wonderful! The pool had a huge shallow area that Molly could stand in and play in, a beach, a great water slide, and a lazy river. Here are LOTS of pics…
