An Afternoon in Dresden

Yesterday morning, we left Prague and headed by train to Leipzig.  Since we had to change trains in Dresden, we decided to spend the afternoon there and wander about the Old Town.  (The girls and I are also reading The Elephant in the Garden, which is set in Dresden and surrounds the events the fire bombing on February 13, 1945, which destroyed much of the city.)

I think the two highlights of the city were the grounds of the lavish Baroque Zwinger Palace Complex,

and the painstakingly restored Frauenkirche.

It was a fun (if hot — no Polar Vortex here) afternoon!  Glad we had the chance to see and learn a little about Dresden.

We made it to our apartment in Leipzig a little after 9:00 last night.  We’re excited to have Leipzig as our home base for traveling over the next two weeks.
