I’m much better about telling you all the accomplishments of the girls or sharing my random ramblings than I am about singing Bill’s praises. I hope you know how great of a dad and husband I think he is, but you may not know what a great professor he is (unless you’re Susan or Shanna or Megan… maybe you do know, but I’m going to tell you anyway). Over the weekend, his tenure and promotion to Associate Professor went into effect, which is a huge career accomplishment!
Luckily, there have been very few times in our career where we have worried about whether we would have jobs, so tenure is really about much more than job security. It’s an acknowledgment from your colleagues that your teaching, scholarship, and service are worth keeping you around long term. It’s one of those moments where you can say, “they like me, they really like me!” Anyway, his tenure is based on excellent teaching, as evidenced by student evaluations and teaching assignments, service to the university, and scholarship at numerous conferences as well as the publication of his book (sorry I didn’t let you know about it in time to pick it up for your beach vacation).
We’re all very proud of Bill!
