We hiked along the Monchsberg yesterday — one of hills surrounding the city of Salzburg. We took the funicular up the the Hohensalzburg Fortress, the oldest castle in Europe.
We walked around the fortress some before continuing our hike.
From the fortress, you can head along the edge of the cliff toward the Modern Art Museum, and through a wooded area.
And some pretty spectacular views…
of the Alps, and
the old city walls, built 805.
Once we got the the museum, we wandered a little and had (a fantastic) lunch in their cafe. Where we enjoyed views like this
and desserts like this
And then we took the elevator back down the mountain. Not a bad approach to hiking.
